Collage Workshop: Exploring Playful Layers

Wednesday Sept 24th

5:30 - 7:30 pm

Join us for a two-hour collage workshop designed for ages 12 and up, where creativity and spontaneity take center stage. We’ll begin by looking at the vibrant, layered work of contemporary artist Beatriz Milhazes, whose collages are currently on view at the Guggenheim in New York. Inspired by her bold use of pattern, color, and texture, students will learn how to create their own unique collages using a wide variety of materials. This class emphasizes the fun, experimental nature of collage—discovering how unexpected combinations can spark new ideas and artistic freedom.

No prior experience is necessary, just an openness to explore and play.

Tickets are $50 per person, and each participant will leave with their own finished collage to take home.

Meet the instructor:

Layne Cromer is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Little Mountain, South Carolina. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in ceramics from Clemson University in 2024. Cromer’s work explores themes of coming of age, growing up in the rural South, and the influence of religion—experiences that have deeply shaped her artistic voice and identity. While she also engages in printmaking and photography, she is now working primarily in painting and ceramics. Her practice centers on creating visual narratives that invite reflection. Cromer’s work aims to foster a connection with viewers, regardless of whether they share her specific lived experiences.
